National School Sport Champion

In a unique partnership with the government and the Youth Sport Trust, Norwich Union is providing vital funding to support Dame Kelly Holmes in her role as National School Sport Champion.

This pioneering partnership promotes alternative health and fitness activities to the PE sessions traditionally held in UK schools. Dame Kelly Holmes has already met 28,000 pupils and teachers to promote the health and lifestyle benefits of keeping active.

One year in and Kelly has helped the government to get 80% of children participating in two hours of high quality PE and school sport a week, smashing its target of 75% for 2006. Kelly is now setting her sights on a much tougher challenge of helping the government to raise participation levels to at least 85% by 2008 and offering children four hours of sport a week by 2010. Undertaking this challenge will see her working further with teachers and children to inspire more young people to be the best they can be in sport, as volunteers, young leaders, officials, participants and potential elite performers.
