Junior Rugby Development

Frampton Cotterell RFC want to successfully maintain and improve the provision of coaching facilities to an ever growing junior base, and need funding for new training equipment.

About the initiative

With over 300 boys and girls of all shapes, sizes and abilities, Frampton Cotterell RFC junior section is booming! The volunteers that are the qualified coaching teams truly believe in the ethos of sport, of encouraging focus, enjoyment and fun, of promoting good health, combating obesity and promoting general well being to our children. However, for us to successfully maintain and improve the provision of coaching facilities to an ever growing junior base [the junior section draws on children from across local communities and beyond within a radius of 15 miles of the club], we desperately need quality training equipment.

As a non-profit making organisation Frampton Cotterell RFC are totally reliant on other bodies for our training, changing and playing facilities. Our revenues are gained primarily through subscriptions and various fund raising initiatives. Budgeting for next season will have to accommodate new charges being imposed for use of training and playing facilities at a local school, which until recently has been free of charge. These charges will effectively wipe out our surpluses resulting in an inability for us to purchase training equipment so desperately needed.

The ethos of Frampton Cotterell RFC junior section is based on the belief that engaging youngsters of all abilities and special needs in this fantastic game not only takes kids off the streets, it provides them with discipline, self respect, respect for others, fitness and team ethics. Engendering such attributes will undoubtedly provide a sound foundation for their futures both inside and outside of sport.

What we could do with a bronze award worth £1,000

A bronze award of £1000 would enable us to purchase desperately needed training equipment to promote fitness, agility and ensure safety including:
2 sets of ladders, hurdles and cones to promote quickness and agility,
10 Mini Tackle Bags and 10 Junior Rucking Shields offering protection in contact training drills. This equipment will be shared by all 300 boys and girls in the junior section and will improve the training and coaching sessions based on English RFU junior coaching requirements by our 25 English RFU accredited and qualified coaches and numerous CRB cleared parental volunteers.

What we could do with a silver award worth £12,500 or even the gold award worth £50,000

A silver award would mean we could purchase sets of equipment for each of the 11 junior playing squads [under 6/7s through to under 17’s] making a huge difference to training facilities and coaching techniques. Funds from a silver award would also secure our immediate future by enabling us to meet the financial obligations imposed by a local school for use of essential training and playing facilities which up until recently were free.

A gold award would secure the long term future of the whole club ensuring the current cohorts of kids are able to enjoy a long term career in sport.

Our final word

The well publicised problems of accessibility to sports facilities, the unacceptable levels of obesity in children and the lack of available and quality amenities all need to be tackled now. We actively engage with local schools and youth groups to promote the game, attracting new players regardless of ability and, making our facilities accessible to all those who express an interest in using.
