Lymm Rugby Club

Lymm Rugby Club would like to buy 10 acres of land, which will provide 15 acres in total on which to build three rugby pitches, an all weather hockey pitch and six tennis courts.

About the initiative

Lymm Rugby club was founded in 1960 and has developed as a rugby club to include mini + junior members based at Crouchley Lane in Lymm with just one pitch. Over the years, satellite pitches owned by the local authority have been used to increase the membership to a present day 600 with 250 children. The club has also developed with other sports including squash, men's and ladies hockey, with 2 teams in each and more recently tennis and netball, by amalgamating with existing clubs. An opportunity arose last year to buy 10 acres of land adjacent to the club for further development. This will give us 15 acres in total on which we shall build three rugby pitches, an all weather hockey pitch and six tennis courts. The total project cost will be £1m, of which we have raised half from our fund and fund raising activities to secure the land. The extra facilities will enable us to further grow the club towards 1,000 members for 5 to 95 year olds and every age in between. The project is local to Lymm but we now have members from the general Manchester area. We have entitled the project the Grass Roots Appeal. The land is all freehold and we own our own clubhouse facilities.

What we could do with a bronze award worth £1,000

We have a relatively large project and every penny we can raise will be put to very good use. A lot of the funds already raised were from members and groups bringing forward small initiatives which raised several hundred pounds each. The mighty oak does grow from small acorns!

What we could do with a silver award worth £12,500 or even the gold award worth £50,000

This level of prize would enable the project dates to be brought forward for the various developments we are undertaking and allow all of our age groups to develop themselves.

Our final word

Mulisports allow us not only to benefit our own members but with active memberships we are also able to go into schools and other institutions and offer our coaching skills and team building skills across the community. We are all well aware that lottery money will go to the Olympics and therefore we and other clubs like us have to rely on alternatives.
